Academic Policies
- ESL is a special program of Brent Subic that caters to students from Non-English Speaking Background (NESB).
- ESL offers intensive language courses in English development, and integrated language and academic skills in Science and Social Science/Studies.
- ESL functions independently from the Language Arts/English department as it follows certain curricula for every ESL level that meet the requirements of the language learners.
- ESL functions dependently in Science and Social Science or Social Studies classes as it follows the mainstream curricula; however, accommodations and modifications are made to meet the needs of the language learners.
- ESL Language Arts in Lower School is an independent subject for second language learners in lieu of mainstream English class. This ESL subject uses its own curriculum.
- ESL English in Middle and Upper School is an independent subject for second language learners in lieu of Foreign Language. This ESL subject uses its own curriculum.
- ESL 1 and 2 Literature classes in Middle school are independent subjects; hence, they use their own curriculum.
- ESL 1 and 2 students in Lower, Middle, and Upper School attend ESL Science and ESL Social Science/ Social Studies, and follow the mainstream curriculum.
- ESL 3 Literature classes in Middle and Upper School follow the mainstream curriculum.
- ESL 3 and 4 students possessing competitive language skills attend mainstream Science and Social Science/Social Studies.
- ESL 4 students, with comparable language skills with the mainstream, are integrated in the regular English class, but are pulled out of Foreign Language in class.
