Although H1N1 Influenza has yet to be reported in the Philippines we would like to send a message of caution to our students and families.  Health trumps everything.  It is very difficult to learn without a healthy body.
Keep us informed:  Contact the school nurses, Christine Mendoza and Gladys Evidente, if your student is staying home and make sure we know the cause of the absence.
252-1321
Keep sick students home:  The school will be flexible and work with students to allow them enough time to be prepared for year end tests and assignments.  Keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours.
Continue healthy habits:  Eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of water and wash your hands often.

Principal’s Message

Schools Out For Summer!

This is a popular song to be heard around school campuses at this time of year.  Yes, we all need some rest, relaxation and fun.  Students look forward with great anticipation to sleeping in, staying up late, being with friends and family.  I must admit teachers look forward to some of these things as well.

Summer months are terrific opportunities to have your student learn in different ways, exercising different parts of their minds and bodies.  I strongly encourage children to try something different.  If they like playing team sports, try an individual sport.  If they like to play violin, try guitar.  I encourage students to be creative and to make something with their hands: a fort, a painting, a go-cart, a shirt… These two suggestions help to embolden a student’s spirit.  They encourage creative thought processes and an ability to take risks.  Try something new and make something this summer.

It is extremely important that children of all ages read! Read! Read!  Mrs. Corum, our middle and upper school librarian has put together a reading list that reflects a wide array of genres and promotes the IB learner profile.  In her words, “We hope that students at Brent will take some of the suggestions for reading from the list on our website, and that you will encourage your child to read this summer by helping him or her choose the right book, by building in time for shared family reading, by reading the same book and discussing it, by reading aloud. We recommend these books with the knowledge that reading will keep students intellectually active, engaged in learning language, and widening their knowledge of the world so that they become more internationally minded.”  Read great literature this summer.
In Canada, summers are short; Canadians dream for 10 months a year about swimming, flowers, hiking and warm sunshine.  We spend as much time as we can in the great outdoors with friends and family.  Summers are times to be cherished with family and friends.  Have fun this summer.

Our senior class, 19 strong, is saying their final farewells to friends, teachers and their school over the next few short days.  Brent Subic wishes them all the best for a successful future.  We send them off knowing that they are: responsible leaders, critical thinkers, able to use the latest technology, healthy and tolerant individuals, clear communicators who are curious to learn more.  They each have a moral compass to check for direction in times of trouble.  They also know that we, the faculty, their friends and classmates, will always be there for them regardless of distance and time.

Brent School, though our paths may sever,
We will carry thee
Deep within our hearts forever.
Whereso’er we be.

Have a great summer – see you in August!
