Reservation/Re-enrollment 2020-2021

Dear Brent Families,

I understand that completing the Reservation and Re-enrollment Form and accompanying payment for the 2020-2021 school year has been difficult for some families during the enhanced quarantine. To help, we are extending the deadline to June 10, 2020.

Having this information is helpful for our future planning. So, while the deadline is extended, we appreciate the completion and payment at your earliest convenience. Thank you to everyone who has already completed this process. As you plan for the future, I want to further assure you that there will be no tuition increase for the 2020-2021 school year. You may click to see a list of All Fees and School Fees Policy. You may also have a look at our updated 2020-2021 School Calendar.

The Reservation and Re-enrollment Form can be on our website. Since our school cashier on campus is not currently able to assist you in processing payments for any school fees, you may settle the reservation fee for the 2020-2021 school year through a bank deposit or bank transfer.

Here is a list of Brent’s dollar and peso bank account details for your reference.

Once you have made the payment for reserving a slot for the next year, please email a scanned copy or photo of the Reservation and Re-enrolment Form together with the proof of payment (via direct deposit or online payment) to ggangoy@brentsubic.edu.ph. Our Accounting Office will issue an official receipt as soon as offices resume. For company dependents, you only need to complete the Reservation and Re-enrollment Form.

Email ggangoy@brentsubic.edu.ph for further assistance.

Thank you,

Mr. Brett Petrillo

Transition from ECQ to MECQ

Good day all,

At this time the transition timeline from ECQ to GCQ has been modified by the SBMA. Instead we will be moving to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until at minimum May 31, 2020. Here is the official notice for your reference.

Due to this development our offices and libraries will remain closed, and the formal collecting of materials for clearance, as well as the distribution of report cards and transcripts, will be delayed until at least June 1, 2020. We will continue to develop protocols for the safe and effective return of school materials and other clearance related items, for implementation after the MECQ has been lifted.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Mr. Brett Petrillo
Headmaster/Upper School Principal

Brent Subic Scheduling Update: April 2, 2020

Dear Brent Community,

Let me first express my gratitude to the entire Brent community for your strength and courage. We are in an extremely difficult time right now and the support amongst our families, students, employees, and friends has been strong.

Of course we hope to return regular classroom instruction, but we must also prepare for the possibility that the current quarantine will be extended. Given the present global trajectory of the pandemic and being conscious of individual family disruptions and your need to make future plans, Brent International School Subic will be making several adjustments to the school year regardless of whether or not we return to classroom instruction.

Priority will be given to completing educational requirements so that our students will have the educational background and transcripts necessary to successfully continue on to the next grade level.

It deeply pains me to cancel a number of long-cherished assemblies and ceremonies, but even if we are able to return to classrooms, it seems likely that large gatherings will continue to be discouraged. The opportunities for closure and to celebrate accomplishments are important, and we encourage families to find ways to formally recognize their children’s hard work. We too will continue looking for alternative ways to recognize and celebrate our students. That being said, the following events will no longer be held in person regardless of whether or not we return to classroom instruction:

Easter Eucharist
Weekly chapel/assemblies
The US/MS Production
Upper, Middle, and Lower School Concerts
Thursday Late Start Professional Development
MAP Testing
International Food Fest
House Water Day
IB Night
Baccalaureate Service
Activity Awards Assembly
School Level Awards Assemblies
Moving Up Days
Upper School Prom

The school year can end several days earlier given the additional instructional time gained by eliminating assemblies, Late Start Thursdays, and MAP testing. Therefore, final exams will run Friday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 19. Makeup exams will be held on Wednesday, May 20.

On Graduation

We will be communicating with our seniors and considering a variety of options for graduation. A ceremony in whatever form it may take will be held on Friday, May 22.

Next School Year

The first day of classes for students next school year (2020-2021) will be moved to Monday, August 10 in order to add a bit more flexibility into everyone’s summer planning, while also keeping in mind that a self-isolation period may be in place for returning travellers. The new 2020-2021 school calendar will be issued shortly. We will use distance learning during typhoon days next semester, which should mitigate any lost instructional time.

I am hopeful that these changes, though disappointing, will allow everyone to remove some of the unknowns and provide greater latitude in planning.

Sincerely,

Mr. Brett Petrillo

Extended Home Learning

Pursuant to Republic Act. No. 11469, and for the well-being of our community, we at Brent Subic will continue with our Home Learning program through April 30, 2020. Students will not report to school during this time.

While Home Learning has some limitations, I am confident in our ability to continue with the level of high quality learning for which we are known. There are also opportunities here for students to take on greater ownership of their own education. Parents, thank you very much for providing guidance at home, and students, thank you for showing the grit that comes with being an accomplished learner at Brent school!

As always, we will continue to keep you informed as the situation progresses.

Sincerely,

Mr. Brett Petrillo
Headmaster/Upper School Principal
