PTA Meeting - January 31, 2008

The meeting opened with President Elizabeth Ha thanking everyone for the very successful program of Aeta Outreach that Brent was responsible for in December. We were able to raise 36,000 pesos for the village; buying oil, sugar, coffee, candy, piglets, and even had enough left over cash donation to their school.

Mrs. Borgerding, Guidance Counselor, made an announcement about needing volunteers for help with college materials. There is a section in the Upper School Library with information about colleges around the world. That information needs to be organized and updated so that our college-ready kids may have current, up-to-date information. If you are able to volunteer bit of time to this very worthy cause, please see Mrs. Sarah Borgerding in her office.

The main topic of this PTA meeting was, of course, the International Food Festival. The ever popular, much-awaited festival will be held this year on a Saturday, March 1. That gives us all exactly one month to prepare.

Last year, we had about 800 participants, and this year, we are expecting over 1,000. In keeping with the carnival-type atmosphere, there will again be a dunk tank, inflatable slides, moon bounces, and games.

Each country will have its own food booth, to showcase that particular cuisine. There will be one coordinator for each country, contacting all parents so that we may contribute something for the food booths. Volunteers are also needed to work at the food booths that night, serving. Details will follow.

The International Food Festival is also well known for its stellar entertainment, and this year will be no exception. There will be a talent show, as well as some cultural dances, songs, and various forms of entertainment.

We are very excited about the upcoming festival, as it does allow each country to celebrate its individuality, but also brings the Brent family closer, as we embrace these differences and learn about other cultures.
